Employment Program

About The Program

CMHA Toronto’s Employment Program assists individuals who are experiencing mental health challenges with obtaining and maintaining competitive community-based employment. We provide participants with individualized return-to-work action plans, job placement supports and ongoing job maintenance.

We also have programs that can support individuals with their short-term educational goals as well as services specifically designed to connect youth to the labour market.

Note: Individuals who are recipients of Employment Insurance (EI) are not eligible to receive service.

Employment Services

We provide comprehensive employment assistance to individuals living with mental illness. The program focuses on developing competitive job opportunities to assist people with finding and maintaining employment.

Employment Planning

Our employment planning services focus on developing an individualized Employment Action Plan, which includes resume development and interview preparation. Employment Support Workers (ESWs) work with their clients to develop realistic employment goals and conduct labour market research, and to support their clients as they apply to potential employers. Once employment is secured, ESWs continue working with clients to assist them with maintaining employment.

Job Development

Our ESWs provide one-to-one job searches based on clients’ goals, previous work experience and education. ESWs also connect with potential employers to discuss clients’ suitability for employment opportunities and advocate for accommodations when necessary.

Job Coaching

We provide on-the-job support to our clients in the workplace. Our Employment Program also operates a consumer-run cafeteria/catering and cleaning business.

The Employment Program is funded by Service Canada, Ontario Disability Employment Support Program (ODSP) and the Central Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN).
